The lowest ATAR requirement is for students applying for the rural entry admission scheme.

How selection works

The selection criteria for Western Sydney University/Charles Sturt medicine comprises a 2 stage process (like many other universities):-

Stage 1: Criteria for Interview

At Western Sydney your academic results from school (ATAR) or from your complete or incomplete degree (based on your ATAR or grade point average) are combined with your UCAT score, to determine who's offered an interview. The process at Western Sydney University takes into consideration your connections with the greater Western Sydney region, with a lower minimum ATAR requirement for applicants from the greater Western Sydney region and international, with a further lowering of ATAR requirements for rural students.

Charles Sturt’s approach is to review a candidate’s UCAT performance to determine interview places. In this, Charles Sturt allocate 80% of interview places to NSW applicants and 20% interstate applicants. A minimum of 6 interview places are also available for Charles Sturt rural applicants from any Charles Stuart University course.

Both Charles Sturt and Western Sydney’s interview process includes an additional element which is a questionnaire (known as the Medical Admission Questionnaire) that is completed prior to the interview.

Stage 2: Criteria for an offer of a place in the medicine degree

Places are offered on the basis of 25% UCAT+ 75% interview for applicants who meet the academic threshold.
